Dan Hogan: Urging All Teams to Do No Harm and Work as One ®

International Institute for Facilitation

I don’t urge you toward “Oneness” because it’s a nice theory. I urge you because you know that no one truly wants to harm or be harmed. Plus, working as one isn’t just a goal; frankly, it is the only sane and sustainable way to function as a team.

40+ Years Experience | 7 Countries | 500+ Teams Served | 8 Books

I worked alongside over 500 teams across seven countries. As a Certified Master Facilitator, I supported leaders and teammates in overcoming conflict, strengthening trust, and building emotionally mature, high‑performing teams. Today, my “special function” has shifted from active facilitation to equipping you with the same field-tested tools I used in the room.

Right Choice Model Loops

The Path to Sanity: The Right Choice Model

Right-Minded Teamwork (RMT) grew out of real conversations with real teammates from many different cultures. It is rooted in a philosophy of applied mindfulness and universal compassion. In this system, your team is a learning classroom where you choose between two internal teachers:

  • Ego: Leading to bickering and the battleground
  • Reason: Leading to Oneness, which is above the battleground.

Which Path Is Your Team On?

Whether you are a leader or a facilitator, RMT provides a clear roadmap for every stage of the journey:

  • The Optimization Path: Moving good teams from competence to greatness.
  • The Crisis Recovery Path: Navigating conflict and resolving root-cause dysfunctions.
  • The Foundational Path: Establishing a solid “Work as One” base for new or reforming teams.
  • The Enterprise Path: Aligning multiple teams with a single, right-minded strategic plan.

RMT is for any leader or facilitator who believes their work team should be a functional, supportive community—a place where shifting your own attitudes doesn’t just benefit the customer, it benefits you.

Field-Tested Resources for Your Journey

Reason Ego and the Right-Minded Teamwork Myth

The RMT philosophy and process are documented in an 8-book how-to series. These aren’t theory books; they are practical guides designed for you to use with your teammates immediately.

  • Your Starting Point: I recommend reading Reason, Ego & the Right-Minded Teamwork Myth. It is the quickest way to understand the mindset shift required to move from Ego to Reason.
  • RMT 5-Element Framework: This is a continuous improvement process that works for any team. This approach identifies Blocking Issues, such as unclear roles or disrespectful communication, and facilitates the creation of Work Agreements to resolve them.

When you apply the RMT philosophy and process, the result is a team that works as one — not through force or fear, but through shared commitment and right‑minded choices.

A New Chapter, A Continuing Mission

Although I am retired from active facilitation, my mission remains: to share these practical “work as one” methods with leaders and facilitators everywhere.

Every week, I share “Gold Nuggets” from the RMT framework in the “Team Building How-To’s.” These are actionable insights designed to be implemented with your team immediately. No “silly games,” just field-tested tools.
