Here’s the story.
This Field Support Operations Team had nine teammates who had decades of work history with one another. They all were technically competent. BUT, they had a huge amount of distrust of one another which naturally and easily produced emotionally-unintelligent and immature teamwork. They were not happy. They were not productive. But that’s not all.
Six of the nine were very aggressive with uppity and arrogant work attitudes and behaviors.
The team was previously leader-led but was recently told they had to become a self-managing team (a possible solution to their uppity-ness their leaders hoped). The teammates were angry with their leader for the self-managing decision. Teammates were frustrated with their organization. They turned to me, Dan Hogan, to help them which I did by guiding them through this emotionally-intelligent teamwork method called Right-Minded Teamwork.
This team building happened twenty-five years ago. I’ve seen many similar stories over these past 25 years. Click the tabs below to find out what they did and their incredible results.
Actions: These 3 Steps Summarize this Emotionally-Intelligent Teamwork Method.
- Use the Choice Model concepts as catalysts for teammate discussion and agreement on the emotionally-intelligent accountable attitudes and behaviors they want to see in their team.
- Capture those behaviors in team Work Agreements that all commit to live.
- When teammates actually live their Work Agreements, the team meets or even exceeds its customer’s expectations.
It’s that simple.
Right Minded Teamwork is an emotionally-intelligent teamwork method that improves accountability by elevating each person’s attitude and behavior.
Right Minded Choice is effective because it gives each teammate a voice and a purpose.
Right Minded Work Agreements ensure teammates work together to meet or even exceed your customer’s expectations.
That is what this team did and it worked. You can do it too.
